What is your favorite part about being a mentor for MSU’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering?
My favorite part about being a mentor is that I get to help fellow students by making the best use of my expertise and the knowledge I have gained throughout the program. I know how to help them debug their code because I ran into that very bug when I was in their shoes.
What makes Electrical and Computer Engineering at Mississippi State a good choice for potential students?
It is a versatile program with a myriad of opportunities during and after the program. The department also provides every tool (both literally and metaphorically!) one can possibly need to succeed. The professors and the advisors are always more than willing to help. I have also made lifelong friends, connections and relationships through the people I have come across in my program. Honestly, a bunch of amazing, talented and incredibly brilliant folks collaborating and devising tangible solutions to real-world problems.
What ECE class has been your favorite class and why?
My favorite ECE class was Senior Design, and I can go on and on about how much I loved it. To me, it felt like the culmination of our program where we could put to test the skills we learned throughout our program. We developed a glove that translated ASL to audible speech, so we were consulting with one of the ASL interpreters (shout out to Ms. Christina Holifield!) at the T.K. Martin Center and seeing firsthand the immediate impact of our work motivated us immensely. Senior Design was more than a class, it reignited the passion and love I had for the program.
What is your favorite part about being an ECE major?
My favorite part about being an ECE major is finding out all the different ways I can serve the communities in need. We can look around ourselves and find that ECE is embedded in modern society. I also loved the tight-knit community we have in the ECE department and honestly, that made everything more enjoyable.
What are some activities or experiences that you have had as part of your major and at MSU?
The list of opportunities, activities, and experiences I have had is endless. Some notable ones include Tau Beta Pi Honor Society, Shackouls Honors College, Undergraduate Research positions under two different professors, Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for two different classes, Internship at USDA, Ed Blakeslee Senior Design Award, and Mentor for Foundations of Design.
